Seizoensgebonden efficiëntie is een nieuwe manier om verwarmings- en koelingsproducten te classificeren, gebaseerd op de energie-efficiëntie over een heel jaar.

Seizoensgebonden efficiëntie wordt beschreven in de Richtlijn voor energiegerelateerde producten (Ecodesign-richtlijn, richtlijn voor ecologisch ontwerp) van de EU. In deze richtlijn worden minimumeisen gespecificeerd met betrekking tot ecologisch ontwerp, waarmee de fabrikanten rekening moeten houden bij het ontwerpen van hun energieverbruikende producten.

Voor airconditioningsystemen, geeft de waarde van de energie-efficiëntieverhouding (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, SEER) voor koeling en de waarde van de seizoensgebonden prestatiecoëfficiënt (Seasonal Coefficient Of Performance, SCOP) voor verwarming beide een goed beeld van het werkelijke energieverbruik van een warmtepomp.

Voor ruimteverwarmingssystemen wordt de efficiëntiewaarde (ηS) gebruikt om de efficiëntie van ruimteverwarmingssystemen, zoals gasketels en hydronische warmtepompen, te vergelijken. In het geval van de warmtepomp, is de efficiëntie gelijk aan de seizoensgebonden prestatiecoëfficiënt (SCOP) gedeeld door de omrekeningscoëfficiënt die voor primaire energie op 2,5 is vastgesteld door de uitvoeringsverordening van de richtlijn voor energiegerelateerde producten. De efficiëntie van de verwarming van water (ηWH) geeft de prestatie aan van combiketels bij het produceren van sanitair warm water.

De producten van Mitsubishi Electric zijn meer ontworpen voor een maximale seizoensgebonden efficiëntie dan voor efficiëntie volgens de conventionele beoordeling. Wanneer consumenten kiezen voor producten met hogere SEER/SCOP-waarden, kunnen zij bijdragen aan het verminderen van CO2-uitstoot en kunnen zij het energieverbruik verlagen, waardoor zij ook weer geld besparen. De nieuwe energielabels geven classificaties voor seizoensgebonden efficiëntie zoals B, A, A+, A++ en A+++. Deze laatste is het hoogste efficiëntieniveau over een heel jaar*. *A++ is het hoogste efficiëntieniveau voor ruimteverwarming en A voor sanitair warm water wat betreft de labels voor Lot 1 (ruimteverwarming en combiketels) tot 2019.
